“I feel confidence in myself and am more independent after doing the course.”
The Stepping Stones project offers support to people who experience mental health needs, through an exciting range of low-cost courses that vary each term.
The Stepping Stones Project enables service users to move into mainstream courses, leisure activities and volunteering, giving them greater control over their lives and renewed confidence and independence. It offers a tailored course programme for adults with mental health needs. The courses offer the chance for people to attend group discussions, look at new ideas, build new friendships and learn new skills.
Find out here how to join Stepping Stones online courses running during the autumn term 2020. These courses are open to all Harrow residents with mental health needs. We understand that these are challenging times and apologise that we are not able to run any face-to-face courses at the moment because of social distancing requirements.
All our Stepping Stones autumn term courses will now be offered free and online using Zoom video conferencing with tutor guidance.
Please note that you will need to have the technology required to access these courses; a smartphone, iPad/tablet or computer/laptop with Wi-Fi internet access for Zoom video calling so that you can view our tutors teaching a live class.
You will also need to have an email address so that we can send you a link to join the class. You will need to download Zoom first to your device to be able to participate. In the pre-group session we will show you how to use Zoom so that you can make the most of the course.
The autumn 2020 Stepping Stones online courses on offer are:
You will be taken through gentle stretches to relieve stress, breathing techniques to promote calm, yoga poses to improve posture, and periods of meditation and relaxation.
A fun Digital Photography course designed to enhance creativity and mental wellbeing with your camera. Meet other learners online and share your photo journey from fun photo projects. A course where you will learn to translate complex shapes into simple line drawings using logic and creativity. Doodle Art helps to reduce anxiety, improves focus and boosts memory.
A brand new and exciting course which will equip you with the tools to build your self-confidence and resilience. Topics will include developing assertiveness, managing stress and anxiety, improving sleep and nutrition. It will help you to set goals for your self-development, whilst gaining insight and support from one another.
These online courses run over an 8 week period. There will be a pre group session the week before courses start from 21st September and a post group session the week after the courses end. It is important that learners attend these sessions. The courses then commence from 28th September and 5th October until November 2020, and will include two sessions of 1.5 hour long each week for 6 weeks, followed by the post session.
