At Mind in Harrow, we understand that culture and identity play a massive part in how we experience mental health. That is why we created DIYA—a dedicated community wellbeing project specifically for South Asian individuals living in Harrow.

The word “Diya” represents light, and our goal is to bring light to topics that can sometimes feel difficult to talk about. We provide a safe, welcoming, and confidential space where you can connect with others who share similar cultural backgrounds and experiences.

What happens at a DIYA session?

We don’t believe that supporting your wellbeing should feel like a clinical appointment. Instead, our sessions are built around connection and creativity. When you join us at Harrow Baptist Church, you can expect a mix of:

  • Creative Activities: Using art and expression to explore how we feel.

  • Cultural Connection: Celebrating our heritage and discussing how it shapes our mental health.

  • Open Discussions: A safe space to talk about emotional well-being, helping to reduce the stigma that can sometimes exist within our communities.

  • Confidence Building: Activities designed to help you feel more empowered in your daily life.

You don’t have to face things alone

It’s common to feel that you need to “just get on with things,” but taking time for your own well-being is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family. Whether you are looking to meet new people, find support for your mental health, or simply want to be part of a positive local group, DIYA is here for you.

Our sessions are relaxed and informal. You don’t need a referral from a doctor to attend—you are welcome just as you are. We focus on building a community where everyone feels they belong and where every voice is valued.

Take the next step with us

Connecting with others is a great way to look after your mental health. Whether you want to learn a new skill, meet people who understand what you’re going through, or just have a quiet chat, there is a space for you here.
