Maya's Story

An 11-year old fundraiser

During lockdown, I have found a new hobby – photography. I wanted to use my extra time to improve my photography skills and work out how to use our camera! So, I thought it would be nice to capture families being safe at home during lockdown by taking photographs on their doorstep or other open spaces (socially distancing of course!) I saw this idea from other professional photographers offering doorstep photos. I thought local family and friends may like to take part in my project, and have a photograph taken to give me the opportunity to get some more practice!

I took the photographs during my May half term holiday; my parents and younger brother were my assistants! It was fun! I wanted to raise money for Mind In Harrow because they are helping people with their mental wellbeing during this crisis. Some people are finding it difficult staying at home, keyworkers may need support too. I got the idea of raising money for Mind In Harrow during the mental health awareness week in May. Thank you to everyone who took part in my project and donated to Mind In Harrow…I am so pleased I smashed my fundraising target!
