The drop-ins take place at the Marlborough Hill Resource Centre (near the Civic Centre). They provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere in which people can come along to meet others, join in with activities and trips or to just have a drink and a chat and read a newspaper. The drop-ins run from 9.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday. The management of the drop-in services has been transferred from Mind to the Family Welfare Association from December 2005, and the service will be unaffected.

| Stepping Stones Project Tel: 020 8515 7878 |
 |
Or email
us for information.
The Project enables service users to move into mainstream
courses and leisure activities of their choice, giving them
greater control over their lives and renewed confidence and
independence. It offers a range of opportunities on a termly
basis. These may include: Health Spa Sessions, English Classes,
Electric Piano Keyboard, Music Technology and Fitness Classes.
The above take place at the local College & Gold's Gym,
2002 Studios & David Lloyd Club.
Please request an information pack by calling 020
8515 7878. After you have completed the referral
form, you will meet up with a project worker to discuss your
interests.
Stepping Stones for Carers
The project helps carers of people with mental health problems
in harrow to take a breakfrom their caring role. Each week
for three hours a carer is able to follow an interest of their
choice (leisure, courses or recreational), while the person
they care for is supported by a care worker.
If you care for someone who is experiencing mental health
problems and you would benefit from a break, please contact
Arvind on 020 8515 7878.
Charges
All courses run by Stepping Stones are low cost (£10
- £15 per course). Some are free of charge.
Languages
Interpreters are made available for initial meetings; some
students may be eligible for interpreting support
whilst doing a course.

| Primary
Care Mental Health Workers |
|
The service is for anyone experiencing mental health issues
such as feelings of depression and anxiety, which can affect
the most people at some time in their lives.
The two psychologists offering the service work jointly with
NHS Psychological Services in a limited number of GP practices
in Harrow. To access the service, you will need your
GP to refer you.
The service offers short-term Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
(CBT), which aims to identify thoughts, beliefs and behaviours
that may be contributing to the difficulties you are facing.
They may be running time-limited groups in the future.

| 'Expert
Perspectives' User Led-Training Project |

This groundbreaking

to be trainers through a course accredited with a University.
The trainers can go on to become volunteers and provide one-day
courses to mental health services, other NHS services, local
colleges and schools.

| The
Mind Counselling Service |
Very sadly, our Counselling Service closed in March 2005 owing
to lack of continuation funding. We campaigned vigorously
to keep the service open and received considerable local support.
It is possible to find alternative counselling services via
your GP, or visit the British
Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
or the United
Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) for private therapists/counsellors
(fees ranging from £25-£60 per session).
If you ring our information helpline on 020 8426 0929 or email
us, we can provide a list of the local charities offering
low cost counselling for specific issues. |
