Raymond's story

Mental Health Champion, Volunteer, Board member

“Wow have I come a long way!  Mind in Harrow has made me feel anything is possible.”

I have been with Mind in Harrow for two years, starting off with the SWISH (Support & Wellbeing Information Service Harrow) Helpline as a volunteer. I progressed to do the Head for Work train the trainer course. I then moved onto be a Harrow User Group (HUG) Representative. This position allowed me to give voice to people with mental health issues. In 2019 I was voted to become a co-opted Board member of Mind in Harrow.

Just to think two years ago I was suffering from depression. Wow have I come a long way! Mind in Harrow has made me feel anything is possible. I have gone to the City and given presentations to government organisations on Safeguarding. I have given presentations to Blue Chip companies.

I recently became a director of Mind in Harrow’s new housing project company called ‘Homes in Mind’. This is going to allow me to make such a big difference in people’s lives. Half of people who are homeless suffer from mental health issues. This position will enable me to help some of them to have a home.
